Who am I now
A skill that I have learned during my years in High Tech High Chula Vista is speaking in front of a crowd to show how much I have learned. It all started with freshmen POL (presentation of learning) it was the first time I ever spoke in front of a crowd to tell them how much I have learned from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. A pol happens at the end of the year for us students to reflect on what we have learned throughout the whole school year. You have to present in front of your teachers, peers, and parents. throughout your school year.
This skill is meaningful to me because it prepared me to become independent, made me trust in myself more, and got me ready for the real world. I had to work hard on obtaining this skill because in high school, this was the only place I learned how to speak in front of a crowd. It’s helped me a lot in the The Power Within project. It is a project that we worked on for the whole fall semester. We had to write a story about us and how we are who we are today. Presenting my story wasn’t a problem for me, it was when I had to read it in front of a stranger's, parents and classmates.
During the month of internship, I have used my speaking to a crowd of people skill as a talent because I taught kindergarten and it was a great experience to show off my talent. I read stories to the kids and gave them instructions given by their teacher to show that I am getting comfortable in my talent and not worrying about if I did bad or good. It was hard at first because getting kindergartners attention is harder than anything else, but once I got used to the class it got easier. By the 3rd week of internship I had to host a game for the kids and explain what to do. I felt good that I gave instructions to the kids because it felt like I was a real teacher.
